Nishesh Basavareddy’s French Open Qualifying Bid Ends in First Round
Paris, France – American talent Nishesh Basavareddy’s campaign to reach the main draw of the 2025 French Open concluded in the first round of qualifying. The 19-year-old, currently ranked around world No. 101, fell in a tough three-set battle to Argentina’s Andrea Collarini.
Basavareddy, who has shown significant promise this season, including a notable performance at the Australian Open where he took a set off Novak Djokovic, was aiming to make his main draw debut at Roland Garros. However, the clay courts of Paris proved to be a challenging start for him in this particular Grand Slam.
In his qualifying opener, Basavareddy pushed Collarini (ranked around 204th) to the limit, eventually losing 5-7, 7-5, 4-6. The match, which saw both players exchanging blows, ultimately went the way of the more experienced Argentine.
Despite the early exit, Basavareddy’s presence in the qualifying draw of a Grand Slam at his age, combined with his recent rise in the rankings (reaching a career-high of No. 100 in March 2025), continues to underscore his potential. He will now look to rebound in upcoming tournaments as he gains more experience on the professional tour.
