ENG vs WI: Joe Root goes past 7,000 ODI runs, becomes highest run-scorer for England in format

Batter Joe Root on Sunday became the all-time highest run-scorer for England in One-Day Internationals (ODI), going past Eoin Morgan’s mark of 6957 runs. Morgan has a total of 7,701 runs in ODIs, but the remainder of those came during his time at Ireland.

Root also went past the 7,000-run mark in 168 innings, becoming the fifth quickest to do the same after Hashim Amla (150 innings), Kane Williamson (159), Virat Kohli (161) and AB de Villiers (166).

Root reached the mark with a cut for boundary off Matthew Forde’s bowling during the second of three ODIs against West Indies.

The right-handed top-order batter further went on to get his 18th ODI century off 96 deliveries.

Root, with 13,006 Test runs, is also the highest scorer for the Three Lions in the longest format.
