Half Sister to The Mackem Bullet Heads Somerville Sale

Full or half siblings to 50 group and listed performers feature among the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale entries, which will take place at Park Paddocks Sept. 2.

The sale has been represented by Royal Ascot success this year via Windsor Castle Stakes winner Havana Hurricane  and this year’s offering includes 10 lots by that colt’s sire Havana Grey , who has provided the sale toppers for the past two editions of the auction.

Havana Grey’s cohort is headed by a sister to Eddie’s Boy , winner of the group 3 Prix Eclipse and Weatherbys Super Sprint, while it also includes a half sister to group winner Windstormblack, who was also unearthed at the Somerville Sale.

Other fillies with smart pedigrees cataloged include a Cotai Glory  half sister to grade 2 winner and Cheveley Park Stakes (G1) runner-up The Mackem Bullet , a Sioux Nation  half sister to multiple group winner and grade 1-placed Wakanaka  plus the Perfect Power  half sister to group 2 winner Prize Money .

Progeny of high-class mares cataloged include a Minzaal  colt out of multiple group winner and black-type producer Alanza and a Havana Grey filly out of listed winner Miss Work Of Art, the dam of fellow stakes winner Tapisserie. Also entered is a Tasleet  half brother to Cheveley Park third Baileys Jubilee and an Ardad  half brother to Two Thousand Guineas (G1) fourth Galeron.

The sale’s Royal Ascot roll of honor is led by champion sprinter Bradsell , a winner of the Coventry Stakes (G2) and King’s Stand Stakes (G2) at the meeting. This year’s Queen Mary Stakes (G2) runner-up Flowerhead heads a further eight graduates to have been placed at Royal Ascot in the sale’s short history. The auction has also produced 35 individual group and listed performers since 2023.

Proven sires with yearlings entered includes Acclamation , Blue Point , Dandy Man , Dark Angel , Dream Ahead , Invincible Spirit, Kameko , Kodiac , Mehmas , Oasis Dream , Sands Of Mali , Saxon Warrior , Showcasing , Sioux Nation, Starspangledbanner , Ten Sovereigns , Territories , and Too Darn Hot

First-crop sires are led by Caturra  and Perfect Power, with 13 lots cataloged each, while other stallions with their first yearlings include Baaeed , Bayside Boy , Dubawi Legend , Naval Crown , Persian Force , Space Traveller , and State Of Rest

Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: “Yet another Royal Ascot 2-year-old winner for the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale in 2025 underlines the sale’s extraordinary record as a source of top-class juvenile talent in its short history. Havana Hurricane joins the ranks of star graduates such as Bradsell, with their respective purchase prices of 9,000 guineas and 12,000 guineas illustrating the remarkable value to be found at the sale.

“Additional incentive to buyers is provided by a substantial increase in the prize-money for the Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes and the Tattersalls October Auction Stakes which will now both be run for £200,000 each, underlining Tattersalls’ commitment to rewarding owners and further enhancing the appeal of the sale to a wide cross-section of domestic and international buyers.”
