Dhakshineswar Suresh Upsets Former World No.19 Tabilo In Winston-Salem
Indian wildcard Dhakshineswar Suresh produced the biggest win of his career to qualify for the ATP 250 Winston-Salem Open main draw, defeating Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo 1-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 in a thrilling final round of qualifying.
The 25-year-old, ranked No. 664, fought back from a set down and 1-3 in the second-set tiebreak before turning the match around with fearless serving and aggressive shot-making. He struck 15 aces on the way to sealing his first-ever ATP Tour main draw berth.
The victory is particularly notable as Tabilo, currently world No. 103, was ranked as high as No. 19 in July 2024 and earlier this season scored a stunning win over Novak Djokovic in Monte-Carlo this year. For Suresh, it marks his best career victory by opponent’s ranking and his third Top 150 scalp in the last three weeks.
With this breakthrough, the Chennai-born youngster becomes the latest Indian to step onto an ATP Tour main draw stage — and he’s done it in style.
