Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Unveils Trophy for 2026 L&T Mumbai Open WTA 125K Series
The trophy for the fifth edition of the L&T Mumbai Open WTA 125K Series was officially unveiled by the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, at his residence on the occasion of Republic Day. The prestigious international women’s tennis tournament will be held from February 2 to 8, 2026, at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) courts in Mumbai.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis, Patron of the tournament; Shri S. V. Desai, Director and Senior Executive Vice-President, Larsen & Toubro Limited; Mr. Sumeet Chatterjee, Chief Communications Officer, Larsen & Toubro; Shri Pravin Darade, IAS, and Mrs. Pallavi Darade, IRS; Mr. Prashant Sutar, President, MSLTA; and Mr. Bharat Oza, Chairman, MSLTA.
Also present were Maharashtra’s emerging tennis star and World University Games bronze medallist Vaishnavi Adkar, along with Ms. Radhika Tulpule-Kanitkar, coach of the Indian Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) team.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed pride in Maharashtra hosting the tournament for the fifth consecutive year. He highlighted the strong performances of Indian players in previous editions, including Maaya Rajeshwaran, Ankita Raina, and Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, and said he hoped Indian players would continue to excel in the 2026 edition. He extended his best wishes to all participants, particularly the Indian contingent.
Prashant Sutar, President of MSLTA, said the L&T Mumbai Open has grown into one of the most significant women’s tennis tournaments in the country. He noted that hosting the fifth edition was a matter of great pride for the association and thanked the Government of Maharashtra for its continued support. According to Sutar, this collaboration has helped provide a world-class competitive platform for both Indian and international players, while contributing to the development of tennis in the state.
The Mumbai Open Tennis Championships enters its fifth year as a key stop on the international women’s tennis circuit. The tournament has a strong legacy, with 2024 Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka winning the event as a teenager in 2017. Thailand’s Luksika Kumkhum claimed the title in 2018, while Latvia’s Darja Semeņistaja emerged champion in 2024. Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann is also among the notable past winners of the tournament.
