“I Try to Focus on Myself”: Mananchaya Sawangkaew on her WTA 125 Mumbai Open Run



Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew sat down with Indian Tennis Daily following her semifinal victory at the WTA 125K Mumbai Open. In this exclusive interview, the eventual champion discussed her mental approach to the tournament, her experience competing in India, and her strategic focus on self-control and playing her natural game. Sawangkaew would go on to claim the title, capping off an impressive week in Mumbai.

Q: How are you doing after reaching the finals?
Mananchaya: Yeah, I’m very happy today that the result is like this and then, yeah, I still surprise myself that I can make it again.

Q: What were your thoughts during the match and what were some key moments that led you to this win?
Mananchaya: My key is I try in this tournament I try to focus on myself and then play my game, enjoy my style and try to be calm. Not like a lot of math, I try to focus on myself more and control myself more.

Q: What are your thoughts on playing in India this time? How are you feeling?
Mananchaya: I’ve been here a lot of time in Mumbai and then last year I’ve been here also but another place but here is good, very nice also. I mean the crowd’s very good and then the court is very good also.

Q: What are some upcoming tournaments you’re planning to play?
Mananchaya: After this? We go Pune and then Bangalore. Still in India.

Q: What are your thoughts on the two people playing the semifinals right now?
Mananchaya: I know them like, I know there’s some but like let’s see because it’s a good match also. I cannot say because who gonna win because they are good players also. So let’s see.
