“The Crowd Was Amazing”: WTA 125 Mumbai Finalist Lilli Tagger on Her Experience in India



2025 French Open Girls Champion Lilli Tagger sat down with Indian Tennis Daily following her runner-up finish at the WTA 125K Mumbai Open. In this exclusive interview, the rising star discussed the challenges of the final, her positive experience competing in India, and the valuable lessons she gained from her week in Mumbai.

Q: Can you talk us through the match today?
Lilli Tagger: Yeah, it was a tough one. She was the better one today, we didn’t win this, not as we wanted it, but of course we take the best that we can out from today and come back strong.

Q: What are some of the key learnings that you took from this week here in Mumbai?
Lilli Tagger: I think it was amazing. Of course I’ve learned a lot of things. The people here, the crowd was amazing. I enjoyed every day stepping out on court, playing in front of them and of course hope to come back to India.

Q: How was your experience so far in India?
Lilli Tagger: The people here are amazing. They are so kind, a lot of joy actually, and good energy. It was amazing, and as I said, I hope to come back to India and get some more experience.

Q: Which tournaments are you planning to play next?
Lilli Tagger: We don’t know yet. For now I’ll go back to Austria and spend some time with my family.

Despite the final not going her way, Tagger demonstrated maturity in focusing on the positives from her Mumbai campaign. Her appreciation for the Indian crowds and her desire to return to the subcontinent suggest that this will be just her first of many appearances on the Indian tennis circuit. The young champion’s resilient mindset and professional approach signal a promising future in the sport.
