Basavareddy’s Los Cabos Run Ends Against In-Form Walton
American #NextGenATP talent Nishesh Basavareddy saw his run at the Los Cabos ATP 250 event come to an end in the Round of 16, falling to Australia’s Adam Walton. Walton, who went on to reach his first ATP singles semifinal at the tournament, dominated the match with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Basavareddy had entered the second round after securing his first tour-level win since January, defeating Colombian qualifier Nicolas Mejia 6-4, 6-1 in his opening match. However, the 20-year-old was unable to find his rhythm against the in-form Walton, who committed just seven unforced errors compared to Basavareddy’s 31 during their 61-minute encounter. Walton’s efficient performance propelled him into the quarterfinals, where he continued his impressive showing.
Basavareddy, currently sixth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Jeddah, will now look to rebound as he aims for a return to the Next Gen ATP Finals later this year.
