Dhoni returns as CSK captain for IPL 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury

MS Dhoni is set to captain Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2025 season after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to injury.

Gaikwad sustained a blow to his right forearm during the Super Kings’ defeat against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday in Guwahati.

According to reports, he suffered an elbow fracture and has been ruled out for the rest of the season, starting with CSK’s match on Friday against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Dhoni’s last match as CSK skipper was during the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad against the Gujarat Titans. Ravindra Jadeja struck a four and a six in the last two balls to help CSK secure its fifth IPL title.

The former India skipper has led the franchise on 235 occasions, captaining the team in all its championship-winning campaigns.

Dhoni had delegated the captaincy duties to Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the 2022 season, but an indifferent start to the competition forced the left-arm spinner to hand the reins back to his former captain.
