2025 Geraldton Cup Runner Preview:

1. Fat Roy Slim: He was really good in the Pinjarra Cup, getting back and closing off quite well in defeat. Looks much better suited at this level, maps to do no work and be strong late. One of the leading contenders.

2. Sowar: He has been up a long time and for mine, there are signs that he is looking for the paddock. Brings strong metro form but I am keen to oppose at the price.

3. Bombay Style: Leading local hope that will press forward and give his all. Just don’t think he is good enough.

4. Manavendra: Lot of quality about his win at Albany last time, albeit he didn’t beat much, but he is a horse that has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it.

5. Bambun Boy: The trip will be no issue. Just think he lacks the class to win. One for exotics.

6. Bayhara: Good honest mare, but she’s not up to this level.

7. Butterflyrock: Local that has been set for the race and has won four on the bounce. Absolutely flying at present and the trip will be no issue. Has to be respected.

8. Gold Friars: I think this guy is the each way bet. He brings solid metro form and will stay all day. He did have his chance at Ascot last time but kept finding the line. Just hoping for a positive ride.

9. Hard Questions: Over a month between runs and 1400m to 2100m…odd set up. Watch betting.

10. Royal Law: Attempted to lead throughout over 2200m at Ascot last time and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. First four contender at best.

11. Truevinsky: Worked home with real purpose in the Narrogin Cup last time and will love the rise to 2100m. Knockout chance off a good speed.

There looks to be a few go forward horses. Royal Law, Butterflyrock, Bombay Style and Bambun Bay are all go forward types, so the tempo should be quite genuine. Gold Friars can press forward from a tricky draw and should land in a good spot if they ride with intent.
