ICC Test Player Rankings: Brook displaces Root as No. 1 batter; Gill climbs to career-best sixth spot
England batter Harry Brook replaced compatriot Joe Root as the No. 1 Test batter in the world in the latest update to the ICC Men’s Test Player Ratings.
Brook rose to the top spot following his 158-run knock in the first innings of the second Test against India at Edgbaston, with Root dropping down to second place.
Meanwhile, India skipper Shubman Gill rose to a career-best sixth spot in the rankings after hitting 269 and 161 at Edgbaston to register the most number of runs scored by an Indian in a Test match.
Gill is just 79 rating points behind Brook, who is followed by Root (second), Kane Williamson (third), Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth) and Steve Smith (fifth) in the rankings.
