LSG vs CSK, IPL 2025: MS Dhoni wins ‘Player of the Match’ award for first time since 2019
MS Dhoni bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ (POTM) award in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after his all-round performance in Chennai Super Kings’ five-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium on Monday.
This is the 43-year-old’s first POTM award in the tournament since 2019. He clinched the honours after he smacked a 11-ball 26 in the death and proved efficient behind the stumps, being involved in three dismissals.
“Good to win a game. Unfortunately the games haven’t gone our way, but this gives a lot of confidence to the team,” the CSK skipper said after the match.
Dhoni came out in the middle when his side was placed at 111/5 after 15 overs, chasing 167. Donning the role of the aggressor and taking some pressure off his partner at the crease, he stitched up a 57-run partnership with Shivam Dube to help the Super Kings snap its winless streak.
Earlier in the match, he was key behind the stumps. He stumped a dangerous Ayush Badoni off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling and helped catch Rishabh Pant out, before running out Abdul Samad.
“We were struggling in the first six overs in previous games when bowling but then come back in the middle overs. We were not getting the kind of the start also as a batting unit, maybe it was because of the Chennai wicket. Maybe we will do better on better wickets, give the batters more confidence,” he added.
Despite the win against LSG, the Super Kings remain languishing at the bottom of the table.
