Maya Iyengar (USA) ousted from French Open Girls singles


PARIS, France – June 1, 2025 – In a surprising turn of events at the Roland Garros Girls’ Singles draw today, American World No. 38, Maya Iyengar, was defeated in the first round by Romania’s World No. 62, Maia Ilinca Burcescu. Burcescu, a qualifier, triumphed over the higher-ranked Iyengar with a decisive score of 6-1, 6-2.

17-year-old Iyengar, who trains under Coach Vera at the Euro Tennis Machine Academy in Arizona, will have another opportunity to compete at Roland Garros. She is set to play in the doubles draw, where she will partner with Ruien Zhang of China.
