Rohit Sharma retirement: Captaincy stats; Win/loss record, series results
India captain Rohit Sharma announced his immediate retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old’s final match was the fourth Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which India lost. Rohit was dropped for the fifth match of the series as India conceded the series 1-3.

Rohit took over as captain in 2021 after Virat Kohli’s resignation, with his first assignment being a two-match series against Sri Lanka. He led India to the World Test Championship final in the 2021/23 cycle, but the team lost to Australia in the title clash.
Rohit started the 2023 cycle strongly with a series win in the West Indies, followed by a 4-1 triumph over England in 2024. However, a 0-3 home series loss to New Zealand and a 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy added pressure.
Rohit’s retirement comes ahead of India’s five-match Test series against in England starting in June.
