Roland-Garros Opens Mixed Doubles Final to All Ticket Holders

Roland-Garros is making a bold move to boost the profile of mixed doubles by allowing all ticket holders to attend the 2025 Mixed Doubles Final on Court Philippe-Chatrier. This change gives more fans the chance to witness a Grand Slam final and brings much-needed attention to an event that often flies under the radar.
The move stands in stark contrast to the US Open’s recent decision to reduce mixed doubles to what is effectively an exhibition format. Under the new US Open system, the mixed doubles tournament will take place before the main event, running only on August 19 and 20. It will feature just 16 teams, with eight seeded based on joint singles rankings and the rest entering via wildcards.
Perhaps the most significant change is the match format. Sets will now go to a tiebreak at 4-4 instead of 6-6—except for the final, which follows traditional rules. These changes shorten matches considerably, making mixed doubles feel like a sideshow rather than an integral part of the tournament.
Roland-Garros’ decision to give mixed doubles a prime stage on Chatrier highlights a commitment to elevating doubles play rather than sidelining it. By contrast, the US Open’s approach risks diminishing the event’s significance.
With this move, Roland-Garros is setting a precedent for how Grand Slams can promote mixed doubles. Now, the question is—will other majors follow suit?
