Ronit Karki’s US Open Juniors Run Ends in Third Round
Fresh off a scintillating run to the Wimbledon boys’ singles final, Ronit Karki’s journey at the US Open Junior Championships came to an end in the third round of the singles competition. The 15th-seeded American also reached the quarterfinals in the boys’ doubles draw.
Karki, who captured the attention of the tennis world with his qualifier-to-finalist performance at Wimbledon, opened his US Open campaign with a solid 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Slovenia’s Ziga Sesko. He continued his winning ways in the second round, battling past Ludvig Hede of Sweden to advance.
However, his singles run was halted in an all-American clash against Andrew Johnson. In a competitive match, Johnson got the better of the higher-seeded Karki, securing a 7-5, 6-3 win to move into the quarterfinals.
In the doubles competition, Karki partnered with fellow American Jack Satterfield. The duo received a walkover into the R16. Their bid for a semifinal spot was denied by the team of Jamie Mackenzie of Germany and Dominick Mosejczuk of the United States, who won the encounter 7-6(5), 6-3.
Despite the earlier-than-hoped-for exit at his home Grand Slam, Karki’s performances at the junior majors this summer have solidified his position as one of the most promising young talents in American tennis.
