Sumit Nagal Advances to Final Qualifying Round at ATP 250 Marrakech

Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal is just one step away from securing a spot in the main draw of the ATP 250 Marrakech tournament. The 27-year-old, currently ranked 139th in the world, displayed a commanding performance in the first round of the qualifiers, defeating Moroccan wildcard Amine Jamji in straight sets.

Nagal, seeded fifth in the qualifying draw, needed just over an hour to dispatch Jamji with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory. His solid baseline game and superior experience on the clay courts proved too strong for the unranked Moroccan player, who struggled to counter Nagal’s aggressive style.

With this win, Nagal sets up a crucial encounter against Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak, ranked 120th in the world, in the final qualifying round. A victory in this match would grant Nagal a place in the main draw of the €622,850 tournament.

Nagal’s head-to-head with Majchrzak stands at 1-1, with the Pole winning their last encounter in 2018 on grass at the Wimbledon Qualifying. However, Nagal won their only other meeting on clay in 2016.

The match against Majchrzak will be a tough test. Indian tennis fans will be eagerly watching as Nagal fights for a place in the prestigious tournament, keeping hopes alive for another strong showing on the international stage.
