White Marlin, once a Melbourne Cup favourite, has been retired from racing following a prolonged effort to bring him back to the track.

The seven-year-old grey made a strong start to his Australian career in 2022, winning his first five races. However, he has not raced since the Andrew Ramsden nearly two years ago.

The son of Mastercraftsman suffered tendon injuries while preparing for his spring campaign in 2023, despite being a $8 Melbourne Cup favourite at the time.

After undergoing extensive rehabilitation, hopes were high for his return in November 2024. Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott had planned to have him trialing in April, but this week confirmed his retirement to Racing.com.

White Marlin, who won six of his eight races, will be rehomed with Adrian Bott’s wife, Jess. His full brother, Gold Marlin, is trained by Joseph O’Brien.
